Community Night- Rural Outreach Center
April 19 @ 4:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Join us for our first Community Night featuring Rural Outreach Center! $1 from every pint sold on Wednesday will benefit the Weekend Snack Pack Program specifically.
Currently, the program is providing snack packs to 21 children in the Holland schools and 29 children in the E. Aurora schools. These are children that are on the free lunch program for the school and the backpacks serve to provide complete nutrition over the weekend so they are coming back to school on Mondays ready to learn.
Backpacks are filled with food that the children take home from school on the weekends. We use food that is nonperishable, easily consumed and child friendly.
Therefore, each child in the designated families, receives 2 breakfasts, 2 main meals, 2 drinks, 2 desserts and 2 snacks. Nutrition is aimed for in all items. Items are put in a plastic gallon, double seal bag for each child. They are then packed in a back pack. The number corresponds with the number of children in the family (# of bags). The cost to fill each gallon bag is about $3.50.
The names of the children are kept private, and the back packs are discreetly given out by school staff members on Fridays. Packers pick up returned back packs the following week.
